So, today was the first day of classes which was pretty basic--just introductory stuff for the most part. Jane Austen, despite being lectured to for an hour straight, seems like it will be an awesome class. I have a British professor for this course and he is NOTHING like I pictures. No, no tweed jacket, spectacles, briefcase, bowler hat, or anything of the like. Actually, he is quite young and looks like very "Express-esque", if you will allow me to coin. But the soporific quality to English accents is not a friend to those who are still jet-lagged and tired at 9:30 a.m. (or, 4:30 a.m. central time). Yikes! But we will be going to the Jane Austen Museum eventually, the Fashion Museum (where we get to try on original corsets from the age! helllooo insta-thin, air-depriving death trap!), etc. Cool, right?
Got a quick break in between class whereby my friends Emily and Chelsea and I went to grab a little lunch at the Boston Tea Party (ironic, no?) Best tomato, mozzarella, and pesto pannini I have ever had the pleasure to excite my tastebuds with, let me tell you! Who lied and said English food was awful? They obviously never went to Bath.
After cramming in some more Doyle, I headed to my Sherlock Holmes class with my professor and school advisor at Denison, Dr. Brown. It was a super engaging class and, despite the suffocating workload, it will be a wonderful class. That woman has THE driest humor which makes it all the better.
Post-Holmes, made a quick pitstop to get a certain surprise for someone special and then went grocery shopping with some of my roommates. Get this: We purchased lots of salad fixings, dressing, two bags of noodles, cheese, paper towels, foil, milk, and garlic bread for all 14 pounds. Ridiculous. And it was TASTEYYYY.
Did some studying/homework (which I am still doing now...) and headed out to Revolution Vodka with 17 of us. It's basically a super trendy bar where lots of the local twenty-somethings hang out so we got a chance to meet locals, bond with each other, and dance. Maybe too much after walking hills all day. Hey, I think I am in negative calories now!
It was interesting to notice nobody was dancing despite having a really cool DJ. So ten of us girls hopped up and started dancing. Sooner than we thought, our guy friends joined us and the English followed suit. Leave it to us American college kids, right? We have to do all the work, sheesh.
So here we are! Close of day 3. If anyone would like a postcard, shoot me an address via e-mail or Facebook or contact my parents for my temporary cell number!
Cheers!
