Bath: Day 6

So, the tippy top is a picture of the girls I'm closest to (2 go to Denison, 1 at U of I, and 1 at Yale) posing with their new English boyfriend. The middle is a picture of all the kids in the ASE program. Below is a picture one of my friends took of Prince Charles. He came to Bath to open some new store.

Class seemed to go on forever today. Having nearly 4 hours of class every day is a bit hard since it's kind of like high school again and it's not a schedule I am used to anymore. Got an excessive amount of exercise today as I accidentally took the wrong turn which takes me the long way back home...well, I felt the burn so I guess it did it's job. You definitely feel your legs getting stronger every day. And apparently I look local because some person asked me for directions, to which I replied, "I'm sorry, I've only lived here a week!" As soon as they heard the American accent I think they understood.

Classes are starting to get a little insane now. We have a proposal for an upcoming paper due monday in Sherlock Holmes, a presentation for Jane Austen on tuesday, the draft of paper 1 due wednesday in SH, and the final copy of the paper due thursday in SH. Oh, not to mention the fact that I have to read 80 pages in The Sign of Four for Sherlock Holmes this weekend despite the fact we are all required to go to Cornwall where the program planned out our days for us so...we have LOADS of time to read 80 pages. It's a bit annoying that Dr. Brown only has the 1 class she teaches so she has a lot more free time to enjoy Bath while we are bogged down by work. Challenging me to balance all of this, but I know I will. Sometimes I worry I'm not paying enough attention to school work and other times I worry I am paying TOO much attention on it so that I am missing out on being in Europe. I'm sure I will get it right one of these days. But it is odd to think that the first week of class is over.

Went shopping for the first time today! I'd say this was noteworthy indeed.
A shop called Top Shop, a London store, opened today and a bunch of us were dying to go check it out. It's so cool there. Very different atmosphere than stores at home. They were even handing out these gourmet chocolate thingers?? It was like a chocolate covered doughnut decorated super cutely on a stick. It was deeeeliiishhh. My friend, Amanda, suggested to me today that the reason the English have such bad teeth must be because they overindulge in sweets. Seriously. You would never believe all the sweet aisles in the grocery stores here. You'd think you were in Willy Wonka's factory. But anyhow...back to the important stuff. Clothes. It was all very trendy, modern, European styles. So I picked up a very cute skirt and top for a reasonable price and I love them :] Yay!

Stopped in a Starbucks this morning before class. That's also very different from ours. The whole layout isn't even recognizable. Way cuter and more cafe style than the ones back home...and they have much different food and some additional items on the drink menu like steamers. I even found these suckers there that I used to love when I was littler that I haven't seen in forever. They were these fruit flavored ones that had different solid color wrappers with little fruit all over the wrapper. Also, got some snack food for the weekend because we were warned that many students have complained about the food in Cornwall. Wanted to take all precautions.

So, we leave for Cornwall at 7:30 am tomorrow...so much for sleeping in on a weekend, right? And the very first stop is Tintagle Castle (the alleged birthplace of King Arthur, as I have mentioned before)--Dad, sorry you can't be here for this!! I'll document it well! We also have tons more activities planned for us this weekend so I will make sure to take lots of pictures for you all!

cheers.

  2. Ah, the King lives in Homer Glen now I'm sorry to say. He wishes his Princess a wonderful time, while his Queen is relishing the fact that their offspring are quite content and merry! The Prince of course is wiling away his time before he must rule the provence of LTHS Central! Off to Cornwall you, to capture the eye of a young knight!
